New 2017 RAM 2500 at Locklear Chrysler Jeep Dodge for Birmingham, AL
If you are looking for a heavy-duty pickup truck that has over-the-top towing capabilities, then the RAM 2500 is your truck of choice. From the base model to the luxurious limited model, RAM offers a wide assortment of trims and configurations to tailor your truck to your specific needs. For 2017, RAM has released a new Power Wagon trim that is reminiscent of the 1979 Muscle Power Wagon. Also available is a new off-road package for the driver who needs more traction on uneven terrain. Lastly, the 6.7-liter Hemi V8 engine is now standard on the three higher trim levels.
Under the 2500's Hood
There are three types of engines in the RAM 2500 lineup. First is the 5.7-liter V8 engine which can produce 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. An alternative fuel option with this engine is the natural gas version, which produces the same horsepower and is better on the environment. Next is the 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. Last is the 6.7-liter diesel six-cylinder engine. All three engines have different transmission options: The 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter gas engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the 6.7-liter diesel is paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a reinforced six-speed automatic transmission. The RAM 2500's towing capacity is 17,980 pounds when properly equipped. It also has the notable five-link coil rear suspension system, which allows the truck to tow heavy loads while reducing friction in the suspension. All trims have the optional four-wheel drive, although the Power Wagon trim only comes with four-wheel drive.
Design of RAM 2500
The Ram 2500 offers three different body styles. For more truck bed space and less passenger space, the regular cab features two doors and the long 8-foot bed. Both the crew cab and the Mega Cab hold five passengers and each have four doors. The crew cab offers either the 8-foot bed or the 6-foot-4-inch short bed, while the Mega Cab only comes with the 6-foot-4-inch bed. Though the RAM 2500's central focus is utility, the truck still manages to provide lots of comfort in the cabin. The base trim Tradesman model comes standard with vinyl or cloth upholstery, 17-inch steel wheels, a six-speaker audio system, heated mirrors, power windows/locks, a locking tailgate, and more. The SLT adds more convenience items like keyless entry, full power accessories, a 5-inch touchscreen with satellite radio, Bluetooth, a power-sliding rear window, and more. Moving up the line in trim levels adds multiple upgrades and available options such as: projector headlights, a 10-way power driver seat, leather upholstery, a rearview camera, a spray-in bed liner, remote ignition, a 10-speaker audio system, the RamBox cargo management system, a limited slip rear differential, heated rear seats, chrome grille slats, and more.
